Longer reflections on what mentoring and preparation looked like in practice.
Getting into ST1 ophthalmology felt like an overwhelming prospect, but Diya made the process feel genuinely manageable. From the outset, he was incredibly generous with his time, always approachable and willing to answer my questions, no matter how small. He helped me with my application in a way that felt truly tailored to me, taking the time to understand my personal circumstances and preferences before offering thoughtful, specific advice on which deaneries to consider. That level of care and personalisation made a real difference.
I have no doubt that Diya's support was a significant factor in my success, and I feel very lucky to have had him in my corner. If you're navigating the ophthalmology application process, I can't recommend his mentoring highly enough, he brings both the expertise and the genuine warmth that every applicant needs.
I was looking for further support in regard to the Ophthalmology ST1 application process, especially the interview aspect. The ST1 interview is different to most, as you are expected to hold different consultations. As someone who had brief exposure to Ophthalmology, I needed some support.
I was lucky enough to practise with Dr Kerwat, where we had the chance to practise different scenarios. It was really beneficial to work with her and learn so much from her communication skills and experience. I benefitted from this massively, as I could see the vast improvement I had made from the start of my practice. When it came to my interview, I felt much more confident going in.
I am sure her support made a massive difference in helping me secure my first-place job. I cannot recommend these sessions highly enough. The support and practice with Dr Kerwat made a massive difference, for sure.
